Privacy Policy

This policy is written in plain language on purpose. It is a readable summary of what Melanin Fitness Nation (“MFN”) collects and what we do with it — not a wall of legalese designed to be skipped. If anything here is unclear, or you want to know something we haven't covered, email hello@melaninfitnessnation.com and ask.

What we collect

We only collect what the platform needs to work. Specifically:

  • Account information. Your email address and username, handled through Supabase Auth. Passwords are managed by Supabase and are never visible to us.
  • Profile information you provide. Your name, bio, location, profile and cover photos, training disciplines, and certifications. All of it is optional beyond a username — you decide how much to fill in.
  • Content you post. Posts, photos and videos, comments, likes, reviews, and direct messages.
  • Workouts and personal records. The exercises, sets, reps, weights, and PRs you log.
  • Relationships. Which gyms you're a member of, events you RSVP to, business listings you own or review, coaching connections, and who you follow.
  • Preferences. Your notification settings and whether you want the optional daily email digest.

We do not sell your data, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers on the platform.

How we use it

  • To operate the platform — sign you in, build your feed, render your profile, run gym pages and leaderboards, and power the directories.
  • To show your content to the right audience: your followers, your gym's members, event attendees, or the public, depending on where you posted it.
  • To send the optional daily email digest, if you've turned it on, plus essential account emails such as sign-in links and password resets.
  • To keep the community safe — reviewing reports, investigating abuse, and enforcing our Community Guidelines.

Who can see what

Public

Profiles, posts, comments, gym pages, event pages, business directory listings, and reviews are public — visible to anyone on the internet, signed in or not. Assume anything you post here can be seen and shared.

Limited to participants

Direct messages are visible only to the people in the conversation. They are not encrypted end-to-end, so they can be accessed by us if required for a safety investigation or by law, but they are not shown to other members.

Private to you

Your logged workouts — the individual sessions, sets, reps and notes — are private to your account. They are shown to other members only if you choose to share a workout to your feed. Your email address and notification preferences are never shown to other members.

Your personal records are also private by default. They are shown on your profile and on your gym's leaderboard only if you switch Personal Records to public in your profile settings. While that setting is off, other members cannot see your PRs or even how many you have.

Reports

When you report a post or profile, the report is visible only to you and MFN administrators. The person you reported is not told who reported them.

Third parties we rely on

  • Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Your account, content, and uploaded media live there.
  • Resend — sends our transactional email and the daily digest. It receives your email address and the contents of those messages.
  • YouTube — MFN TV embeds streams and videos from our YouTube channel. When a YouTube player loads on /tv, YouTube may set its own cookies and collect viewing data under Google's privacy policy, not ours.

Your rights

  • Edit or delete your content. You can change your profile at any time and delete your own posts, comments, reviews, and workouts from the platform.
  • Opt out of email. The daily digest is optional and can be switched off in your profile settings whenever you want.
  • Delete your account. Email privacy@melaninfitnessnation.com from the address on your account and we will delete it, along with your content. Deletion is permanent.
  • Ask what we hold. Email us and we will tell you what data is associated with your account.

Cookies

We use authentication session cookies — the ones that keep you signed in as you move between pages. That's it. No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking pixels. Embedded YouTube players on MFN TV may set their own cookies, as noted above.

Children

MFN is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let members know in the app or by email. Questions go to hello@melaninfitnessnation.com.
